EVOLUTION
Out of the dust a shadow,
Then, a spark;
Out of the cloud a silence,
Then, a lark;
Out of the heart a rapture,
Then, a pain;
Out of the cold, dead ashes,
Life again.
LIFE
From too much love of living,
From hope and fear set free,
We thank with brief thanksgiving,
Whatever gods may be;
That no man lives forever,
That dead men rise up never,
That even the longest river,
Winds somewhere safe to sea.
NOT FOREVER…
Not forever does the bulbul sing,
In balmy shades of bowers,
Not forever lasts the spring,
Nor ever blossom flowers.
Not forever reigneth joy,
Sets the sun on days of bliss,
Friendships not forever last,
They know not life, who know not this.
